I love reading! It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing ever since I was a teeny tiny baby penguin, and more recently I have grown to love how much I can learn form such books.
In today’s blog I want to share with you the 6 books that I want to read in 2018 that I believe will really help me to learn and grow in my faith! Yes, I realise we are already 2 1/2 months into 2018 but there’s still plenty of time!
This book was lent to me by a friend last year after Jenny got engaged (OK yes Jenny is helping me read all these books – I’m only a little penguin and they have such long words!). The book is all about preparing for marriage and covers: what marriage and love are all about; singleness; dating, alternatives to marriage and the seriousness of deciding to get married. So far, it’s been an awesome took and really helped us to understand more about our relationships and marriage. Sadly, we didn’t quite make it through the book before she got married so we’ll just have to catch it up as soon as possible!
This is a book Jenny brought at New Wine a year and a half ago! This book explores how we can understand and follow the path that God is calling us down. This looks like such an interesting and helpful book and I can’t wait to start reading!
I was lent this book a little while ago by Robin to help me with a talk I was preparing and Robin recommended I gave the whole book a read (and he doesn’t even like books so it must be good!). In the world around us, we see so many people hating the way they look, comparing themselves to others and devaluing their own abilities and worth. But this isn’t how God sees us! This book explores our identity in Christ, how God sees us and what this means for our lives! This is such an important topic that I can’t wait to read & share with others.
Yes, this book is by author of the Chronicles of Narnia and I am super excited because I love his writing style!! Mere Christianity is one of these books that I’ve heard talked about so many times but never read. This book pulls together a series of radio broadcasts presented during the war, then explain and defend the Christian faith. I am really looking forward to taking a step back and remembering some of the core values of my own faith.
Cathy Madavan is a public speaker, heavily involved in Spring Harvest and also an author! I heard Cathy first in a workshop about public speaking during a new wine leadership conference last year and was so impressed! She was a hugely inspring speaker, again supported when I heard her talk at New Wine United later that year. Her book encourages us to dig deeper and discover more of our identity, strength, character and purpose – all of which God has already placed with in. More exciting still, so many reviews comment on the practical guidance giver so I am excited to get into that!
Nicky & Sila Lee are the presenter and authors of the Alpha marriage preparation course which Jenny & Robin have just completed (blog coming soon). So, they received this book from their wonderful course leaders. It explores how we can build (continually) strong and healthy marriages, guided by practical advice and covering topics including conflict resolution, intimacy and communication. I think this will be a fantastic book to read as Jenny & Robin begin building their lives together.
I’ll keep you updated with how I’m getting on reading these books and what I learn from them, so make sure you’re following me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
