For today’s Advent Challenge we saw the shepherds arriving in Bethlehem to see baby Jesus. The shepherds would have been complete strangers to Mary and Joseph, but the birth of Jesus brought them all together to celebrate.
All the challenges today looked at how we can reach out to strangers:
Challenge 1: Talk to someone sleeping rough
Challenge 2: Speak to someone you see often but never talk to
Challenge 3: Hand deliver Christmas cards to neighbours you’ve never spoken to
At the church I go to, we have three services within each Sunday morning – one at 8am, 9.30am and 11.15am. I usually go to the 11.15am service but have also attended each of the others several times. Therefore, there are quite a lot of people that I see around and know vaguely but never really talk to.
However, this evening was our Carol Service, which gave me loads of opportunity to talk to different people whilst setting up and after the service!
