For the last week, I have been on an exciting, and rather muddy adventure in Somerset!
For the past two weeks the Bath and West Showground has hosted United 2017, a Christian conference run by New Wine. Joining the fun for week two I, and a group from my church, had a fantastic week of worship, fellowship and learning.
This was a wonderful time to get to know each other better, hear amazing speakers talking from God’s word and to set time aside to dedicate to God in worship and prayer. Myself, Jenny and Robin also spent the week serving on the Pebbles team – ministering to 3 and 4 year old’s and helping them to encounter God. This was such an amazing experience and a privilege to be part of.
Over the next few weeks/months I will be sharing more about the types of prayer we did throughout the week including creative prayer with Pebbles and prophetic prayer during team times!
The main thoughts I have taken away from this week are 1) the need to dedicate time to reading the bible and prayer as part of my daily schedule and 2) something that one of the Pebbles pastoral team said at the beginning of the week which stuck with me throughout the rest of the week: no matter how you feel, God still deserves praise.
Coming away from a big event such as United 2017 always poses a challenge – how much will you let this impact your life? Because that is the choice we all face now. The week itself keeps you contained in a secure “bubble”, surrounded by people that support you and believe in the same God as you, wanting to encourage you in this. Coming back into the “real world” can often feel so different that it’s easy just to forget everything we’ve just learnt and go back to normal.
But this would be missing the point entirely! We are challenged to take all we’ve learnt and return to our churches, to our workplaces, to our schools and our friends, and live out this experience. Back at home, we still worship the same God – so why should our attitudes change? The excitement and energy we have for God at a big event like this should be replicated exactly in the way we live our daily lives.
So this is my challenge going forwards – putting all I’ve learnt into practice and maintaining the excitement, energy and thirst for knowledge I have experienced through United 2017.
I would definitely recommend braving the mud to join us at United 2018, bookings open in September!
